Introduction to CPSIA

The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Action of 2008 was signed into official law on 14^th August 2008, and the effective date of the requirements is on the same date. The amendment is extensive, including not only the adjustment of children’s toys and children’s products regulatory policy, but also the content of the reform of the US regulatory agency, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) itself.

2. CPSIA testing projects

Children’s products containing lead. Lead paint Regulations: All children’s products sold in the United States are eventually tested for lead content, not just coated products. CPSIA certification limits the amount of lead in paints and coatings, as well as in the product itself. Since August 14, 2011, the limit for lead in children’s products has been reduced from 600 ppm to 100 ppm, and the limit for lead in consumer coatings and similar surface coating materials has been reduced from 600 ppm to 90 ppm.

The requirements for phthalates are as follows: dihexyl phthalate (DEHP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP), phenyl butyl phthalate (BBP), diisononyl phthalate (DINP), diisodecyl phthalate (DIDP), dioctyl phthalate (DNOP), shortly called: 6P.
